Beyond Resilience: Cultivating Emotional Endurance in the Age of Overwhelm
Today, we live in the Age of Overwhelm. Whether it’s politics, work, family, etc., we are constantly inundated with pressures that can feel impossible to navigate. At work, we’re often asked to be resilient and to “bounce back” to normal as if nothing is happening. But what could it look like to instead cultivate our emotional endurance–to reclaim our feelings rather than ignore them–so we can stay grounded even during times of difficulty?
This workshop introduces the concept of emotional endurance and gives participants the tools and opportunity to practice its five foundational skills: self-awareness, empathetic boundaries, emotional regulation, self-care, and self-compassion. It presents the science of how our bodies react to being overwhelmed and the mindset shifts, practices, and strategies we can engage in to modulate our feelings in the context of design work. Live demonstrations, exercises, and toolkits will also be included.
Please note that this is an educational workshop geared towards design professionals and is not a group therapy session. It is not suitable for those interested in personalized counseling or those in need of immediate mental health assistance.
