When is pudding, not pudding? How do you avoid the hacky sack problem? How do you handle granularity tug-o-wars? Come learn practical, fun concepts for analyzing and negotiating taxonomy standardization. Tig Newman, information architect for Google Cloud’s Looker product line, will show what they learned in analyzing & negotiating a cross-organization taxonomy that’s used in multiple tools, teams, and data streams — without ever having a committee meeting and without ever mentioning the dread “taxonomy” word!
As the information architect and principal content strategist for Looker (part of Google Cloud), I invented, evangelized, and implemented a novel system to generate, track, share, and merge product data cross-functionally. As Looker teams migrate to Google Cloud’s tools, they have been intent on preserving this system that helps teams operationally and strategically. I have a background in a variety of teams and functions, which helped me see the roadblocks and possibilities. I also am a certified data analyst and love finding novel ways to generate and use data.
