The Information Architecture Conference (IAC) is committed to creating a welcoming and harassment-free experience for everyone. Our community thrives because of your support, and we value your contribution.
Commitment to a Safe Environment
All participants, including organizers, volunteers, speakers, sponsors, and attendees, agree to follow the Code of Conduct during the conference. This applies to all interactions, including:
- In-person and virtual sessions
- Q&A sessions
- Workshops
- Social events (in-person or virtual)
- Communication on platforms like Discord, Twitter, and LinkedIn
We expect respectful and supportive behavior across all settings.
Respectful Behavior
- Be respectful of all participants. Understand and honor the boundaries of fellow attendees, speakers, and staff.
- Act as a community member. If you see someone feeling uncomfortable, step in or notify an IAC volunteer or staff member.
- Refrain from harassment or offensive speech. Harassment includes but is not limited to:
- Intimidation, stalking, or threats
- Recording people without consent
- Disruptions during talks
- Inappropriate language, jokes, or comments
- Use of discriminatory imagery
Communication Guidelines
- Respect others’ boundaries. If someone declines to engage with you, stop communicating with them unless invited later.
- Avoid offensive content. Sexualized or vulgar content is not acceptable in any format, whether during talks or in virtual spaces. Think carefully before posting memes or comments that could be misunderstood or considered offensive.
Speaker Responsibilities
Speakers discussing sensitive topics (such as abuse, trauma, or mental health crises) must include appropriate warnings before sharing such content. They should also inform the IAC organizers in advance to ensure thoughtful handling of the subject matter.
Honesty and Transparency
- Do not misrepresent yourself or others. Use your real identity in virtual environments. If using a nickname, ensure that others can identify you clearly.
- Avoid misrepresentation of others in posts, comments, or public messages.
Inclusivity
IAC is committed to inclusivity. We prohibit discrimination based on race, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, nationality, or any other personal characteristic.
Need Help?
If you experience or witness harassment or inappropriate behavior, contact a member of the IAC team. You can reach team members labeled as “Staff,” “Co-Chairs,” or “Safety” through our designated online platforms or via email at codeofconduct@theiaconference.com. Additionally, you can file an IAC Safety Issue Report.
Event staff are available to assist anyone feeling unsafe and will help you connect with safety personnel.
Consequences of Violating the Code of Conduct
Participants asked to stop any inappropriate behavior must comply immediately. Failure to do so may result in:
- Warnings from the co-chairs or staff
- Revocation of conference credentials without a refund
We expect all participants to follow these guidelines throughout IAC-related events and gatherings.
This Code of Conduct was last updated on October 23, 2024 and will continue to evolve as needed.
