Using workshopping and participatory design techniques to align stakeholders, clients, and teams

The IA tools and frameworks we use can be confusing and intimidating to the people we work with. From labels, ontologies, and knowledge graphs to artificial intelligence, IA is technical and a bit scary. What’s more, our work as IAs and what business owners care about can seem disconnected. The result can be beautiful navigation and service designs that go nowhere.

Structuring and facilitating the stakeholder experience IS part of our work. And participatory meetings and workshops are a great way to come to consensus. But the how-tos aren’t really taught in school or on the job. Fortunately, as user experience practitioners, we have skills that uniquely position us to facilitate meetings that help clients and teams come to agreement.

In this workshop, you’ll practice leveraging your existing skills and learn new participatory techniques that engage everyone in the discovery, analysis, and design process. Getting to Yes will give you a flexible activity-building and facilitation framework. Participants will explore tools and techniques for developing buy-in and consensus. Importantly, you’ll discover that you don’t need to be a certain kind of person to do this. We can all design and facilitate effective participatory activities from where we stand right now.

Join us to translate your user research, IA, and design thinking skills to create collaborative sessions that are fun, effective, and get the work done.
