Strategic Information Architecture

Day-to-day IA work often focuses on the tactical. Things like wireframes, site maps, taxonomies, and navigation models create better experiences. But how can we leverage our information architecture work to have a larger, more strategic impact?

To learn how we can work more strategically, we’ll look at how the elements of information architecture change as we work at different scales. Then we will explore methods we can use to transform day-to-day, tactical work into work that influences the organization at a more strategic level.

Using Dan Hill’s framework for strategic design, we’ll look at three methods to introduce trojan horses that influence the dark matter of an organization and effect strategic change.

At the end of the talk, attendees will have specific methods to work more strategically. And attendees will also walk away with a framework for identifying and developing their own methods, customized to their unique organizational contexts.
