Making IA visible at scale: representing information architecture in your design system

Mature design systems provide crucial benefits to design teams and users alike. These systems enable consistency across massive ecosystems – and make efficient work of it. But often, designers are not experts on information architecture. So, how do you go beyond the design of components, and get greater alignment on consistent placement and usage of these elements that impact comprehension, navigation, findability, and more?

There are important relationships between IA and content style guides, accessibility guidance, and naming conventions in Figma libraries. In this talk, we’ll share our experiences incorporating IA into design systems and the ways we consider how to mitigate misuse at scale.
