Taxonomy Testing: How to Prove that It Will Work

Aside from engagement with stakeholders during the taxonomy development process, what can you do to demonstrate that the taxonomy will work before it is implemented? This talk provides practical advice on how to demonstrate that the taxonomy that’s been created will work. Methods are described for validating that: 1) categories are discrete, 2) metadata will be complete and consistent, and 3) content will be easy to find. Each method is illustrated with examples from projects that use online tools such as Ethnio, Optimal Workshop, and face-to-face activities.
