Our opening keynote will be presented by Claire Wardle, Ph.D.
In this talk, Wardle examines the characteristics of the contemporary information ecosystem, from viral videos on TikTok to local ‘pink slime’ news sites, AI slop and the growth of closed messaging apps. In the increasingly polluted information environment, how do we navigate our way through this reality? For institutions facing increasing levels of distrust, what lessons can they learn from online influencers and participatory disinformation communities? And as individuals, how can we discern what is true and false? This talk will provide some theories and frameworks to help situate us as we adapt to our new AI-powered realities.
