Poster Night is a highlight of the Information Architecture Conference experience! Attendees explore creative exhibits showcasing real projects, research, and fresh ideas from across the IA community, chat with poster creators, and connect in a lively, happy hour-like atmosphere.

Poster Night is the easiest way to meet people at IAC. Wander the room, see what others are working on, and ask the people who made it. Everyone’s there to talk, so it’s a low-pressure way to start conversations, whether it’s your first conference or your fifteenth.

Call for Poster Proposals

Whether you work in information architecture or a neighboring discipline, in industry or in academia, we’d love to see your poster. We especially welcome submissions from:

  • Information architects
  • Content designers and strategists
  • Knowledge managers
  • Taxonomists and ontologists
  • Context engineers
  • UX and interaction designers
  • Librarians and researchers

I loved presenting at Poster Night! It was a fun, relaxed environment where I had numerous, insightful conversations and made connections that lasted far beyond the [conference] week.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome poster presentations on:

  • Foundations — core IA practice, usability, accessibility, and the enduring principles that hold up regardless of what technology arrives next
  • Ethics — how we build systems that are honest, fair, and accountable to the people who use them
  • Human + machine — the working relationship between human judgment and machine intelligence, and where each should lead
  • New frontiers — emerging practices, tools, and roles (including AI-driven ones) that are reshaping how we do this work
  • Case studies — real projects, real trade-offs, real lessons learned, wins and failures alike
  • Something else! — you’re welcome to propose ideas that aren’t strictly tied to our conference’s theme

Examples from Past Poster Nights

Poster presentations come in a variety of experiences and topics. If you’re looking for inspiration, here are a few examples. But we encourage you to be creative! There’s no single right way to present, and the best posters invite people to do more than read. Here are some posters from last year:

  • Accessibility as architecture: why accessibility in large public-sector services depends on helping people understand the system, not on checklists applied to screens
  • Case study—IA in mission-critical settings: untangling the fragmented information flows of an organization’s flightline operations
  • The humble button: the 130+ year history of the button and the hidden IA behind its design
  • Taxonomy meets generative AI: lessons from using ChatGPT and Copilot at Fortune 500 companies, including what went wrong
  • Diagnosing misalignment: a 16-question framework for telling IA problems apart from organizational dysfunction
  • Case study—Consolidating a university’s web presence: A university merged 17 independent global sites into one cohesive experience, using interviews, audits, and tree testing, plus stakeholder engagement and governance.

Frequently Asked Questions for Proposals and Presenting

How will I be notified if my poster idea is accepted?

We’ll email everyone who submitted a poster idea in late November. This gives our accepted presenters ample time to prepare their poster presentation for the event.

Can I submit more than one poster idea?

Yes, you’re welcome to submit more than one poster idea. However, if more than one idea is accepted, you may only choose one idea to present. Please submit each idea separately.

When is Poster Night, and do I have to attend the conference?

Poster Night takes place in person at the IA Conference on the evening of Thursday, April 15, 2027. To present, you need to register for the conference and attend Poster Night in person. Presenters attending Poster Night must be registered.

Posters can have multiple authors, and not every author needs to attend. At least one author must be registered and present to display the poster, and any co-authors who join them at Poster Night must also be registered. Co-authors who aren’t attending don’t need to register for the conference.

Am I eligible for a conference discount?

Yes! Accepted poster presenters receive a discount on conference registration. If your poster is a group effort, all authors are eligible for the discount. This discount cannot be combined with other discounts.

Do I need a finished poster to submit a proposal?

You don’t need a finished poster to submit. An idea is all you need to submit. You can submit your proposal via our Google Form. If your idea is accepted, you’ll need to send a draft of your poster for review by February 28, 2027.

What’s the format for poster presentation?

At minimum, everyone displays a printed poster. From there, you can get as creative as you want! Some presenters include activities that use laptops or sticky notes. In the past, people have presented 3D models and puppet shows! Unlike traditional poster sessions, we encourage your presentation to be fun and interactive. If you have questions, contact the Poster Night host (Michelle Chin).

How much space do I have for my poster presentation?

The room is set up like a science fair with rows of tables for presentations, so you’ll have 1-2 neighbors presenting next to you. There’s enough space for a few people to stand in front of the tables to talk about your poster.

Your posters will be mounted on a board that will sit on top of a table. The table is 30 inches (76 cm) in depth. Your poster must be no larger than 40 x 30 inches (102 x 76 cm) to fit the board we provide. Most presenters choose landscape orientation, but portrait is fine, too.

Your presentation space will be about 5 feet / 60 inches (~1.5 m) long, with about 30 inches (76 cm) of space in front of your poster.

The room has very few power outlets available. If you need electricity, please notify us in advance. We cannot guarantee power for your space. If you’re using devices like a laptop or iPad, please charge them ahead of time.

What supplies do you provide?

We provide:

  • Tape to mount your poster
  • Backing board for your poster (40 x 30 inches / 102 x 76 cm)
  • Cardboard easels – mounted to the back of the board, so your poster can stand on the table.
  • Tables and chairs
  • Very limited electricity and wi-fi

We do not provide:

  • Printing your poster—we can recommend printing options
  • Additional materials—sticky notes, pens, markers, paper, handouts
  • Extension cords
  • Laptops, tablets, or other devices

Do you print our posters for us?

We do not print posters for presenters. You are responsible for printing and bringing your poster to the conference. If needed, we can recommend poster printing options.

Will my poster and bio be listed on the website?

Yes, as long as you submit your information to the Poster Night host by the given deadline. If your bio is submitted after the deadline, we cannot guarantee that it will be listed.

Poster Night is the ultimate ice-breaker: a casual, low risk way to chat with dozens of [IAs] whose paths you might not otherwise cross – made even easier because there’s a topic right there in front of you.

Poster Night allowed me to truly feel like a part of the IA community – speaking to peers and industry experts, I lost my imposter syndrome as my viewpoints and techniques were respected and my frustrations were found to be universal.
