We’ve already announced that IAC20 will be a digital only conference. Since our announcement, more of everyday life – both home and for work – has moved online. We’ve watched and thought carefully about how this might be affecting people.
We didn’t want to be bound to plans for the face-to-face meeting where there are healthier and more effective alternatives. So we’ve made some changes to the format and pricing of the conference to give you the most value. You no longer need to dedicate whole days locked to a computer screen to get value from IAC20. We’ve spread out the live session over two weeks and you can watch the recorded content whenever you have time. We’re making the most of our new digital environment.
Main conference registration
Since we switched to the digital format we’ve lowered the price to $850. If you paid more than this we’re giving you a credit for the extra amount. You have three options for how to use this credit.
- Use it to register for an extra IAC20 workshop
- Donate it to the IAC20 scholarship fund
- Receive a discount code for IAC21
We always knew our workshop offer would change when switching to digital. We’ve been working with our workshop leaders to ensure we’re still delivering the highest level of professional training. And the new digital format means a few more positive changes.
- Learning online can be more intense than face to face, so we’ve reduced the duration of some workshops. All workshops are now half-days.
- We’ve reduced the price. All workshops are $150.
- We’ve adjusted the capacity on most workshops to allow more people to register and participate
- We’ve adjusted the timings to enable people to attend multiple workshops more easily.
- We’re including 1 free workshop with every main program registration.
For those who paid the original price for workshops we’ll be refunding the difference.
You can choose your workshop using this form and we’ll add it to your registration.
Format of the event
We’re all experiencing unprecedented times. The challenges we’ve faced organising this conference are insignificant when compared to the hardship that many people are facing. But as a team of volunteers and a community of experts, we’ve been trying to adapt and make IAC20 a bright spot at a time of uncertainty.
We know that work life is disrupted for many. While some early discussions focused on video bandwidth, we quickly realised that human bandwidth is under strain too. Our adjustments should help you get the most from your investment in IAC20 and protect your health and productivity at this time strain.
We’re working on a new schedule. We’ll still have “live” events. But we’re offering recorded talks so you can consume them when you have time. You don’t need to juggle a disrupted work and home life with IAC20. Recorded content will be available to you when you have time. No more missing out or having to choose between talks. You’ll have access to every talk in the IAC20 program for a year.
Our offer of free workshops gives you one way to interact with your peers. We’ll also be scheduling and hosting panels and discussions to accompany and extend the recorded content.
Our volunteers are also committed to offering many of the other features that make IAC20 valuable. Careers sessions will be happening remotely. Social events will be taking place on Zoom to build the connections that make our community so strong and vibrant. We’ll continue to connect and build our community.
These are strange and difficult times for many reasons. But they’re also offering chances to show what we value and care about. The move to digital has meant we’ve been able to extend our offer to support student attendance. Every qualifying applicant to the IAC20 scholarship program will now be able to attend. We’re extending this offer to a second round of applicants.
IAC20 is an event about making sense in challenging times. It’s now also a chance to build and strengthen a global community of designers, information architects and sense-makers united in intention and connected via technology. We look forward to you joining us and helping shape that conversation.
